This week I thought I’d do more figure painting, but I wanted to try something a little different. I don’t know about you, but I love old paperback covers. I have a soft spot for trashy old pulp novels in general, and I’m sure those wonderful illustrated covers have no small part in that. Looking through the reference photos from last week, it occurred to me how many of them would feel right at home on those covers (many of which were little more than figure paintings themselves, anyway).
And so this week I thought I’d do another set of figure paintings, but paint them as if they were covers for old pulp paperback novels.
As with the previous week, all of these were painted from photo reference by Hong Ly (characterdesigns.com), with some changes, usually to add clothing onto the models to make them “appropriate” for cover art. Also, I didn’t come up with any of these titles or authors myself, I got them from the Random Romantic Book Title Generator and Random Pen Name Generator, respectively.
